February 2023

YAY! My website is back up! Thanks for your patience because Life be Life-ing ;) An overview of the past few months:

On Set!

-In November 2022, I booked an awesome commercial and was in Orlando for a week. The spot should come out in March

-In December 2022, I was a volunteer actor for the 52nd Street Project! A lovely community that encourages and cultivates EXPRESSION through theatre. The young playwrights were brilliant!

-I started 2023 with a huge callback! So, as always, fingers crossed. I also had a development reading for a play coming out this Fall

-I am in pre-production for a comedy that shoots this month!

Hope your 2023 has been treating you well!

FRIENDS!!

Has it really been over a year since I’ve updated you?! HUGE giant face palm emoji here. It has been a wonderful year of opportunities and I can’t wait to go into details soon and give some visuals/videos!

Quick Overview:

-Our film, EXPECTATIONS has received multiple laurels and honorable mentions in several film festivals. One of them being the Global Film Festival Awards where we won Best Thriller (short), Best Director, and Best Actress! There’s nothing like creating your own work!

-I’ve booked several commercial projects since my last update and have been PINNED for a few Network TV shows. Fingers crossed these PINs will turn into BOOKINGS soon. I’m also EXCITED that THEATRE is back in NYC! I’ve been in several staged readings since my last update and have deeply missed my theatre roots.

-I love being a student at the Magnet Theatre and have completed Improv levels 1-4. I’m continuing to get coaching and scene study classes with the fabulous Camille Mana.

-I’m currently in pre-production for another film and in the process of writing my own ;). AS ALWAYS, STAY TUNED. I promise I won’t take a whole year to update you this time.

July 2021

-So excited to be a student again! I’ve start taking TV/Film classes at MN Acting Studio and Improv at the Magnet Theatre. Look out for a showcase date at the end of August!

-Our film, EXPECTATIONS, is an official selection for Santa Monica Shorts! Our first laurel for this film

Happy summer! NYC is slowly reopening and everything is starting up again! I am excited for the weather, opportunities, and finally getting to see some loved ones. That said, it would be remiss of me to not honor what we have collectively gone through these past 16+months. I hope you are being gentle with yourself with all that you’ve gone through, holding onto LOVE, and navigating through this transition with deep, deep breaths. You are loved. You are not alone.

Few updates from this month:

-Booked an industrial with Bess Fifer Casting

-Wrapped “Expectations”! Look out for it in the film festival circuit

-Also excited to announce that I am now working with DDO Artists Agency and their NY Commercial division!

-My updated reel is up now! ON the reel/media page of this website :)

Looking forward to see what is in store for the summer 💃💃💃

April and May 2021

-I started filming for “EXPECTATIONS” as the lead “ALICE”.

I wrap EXPECTATIONS this next week! BTS photos coming soon!

February and March 2021

It’s been a very busy first quarter of the year! I hope you are finding moments of rest and grounding. Things are slowly reopening again and I’m seeing glimpses of how life “used to be” before this pandemic. After a period of stillness, I now find myself having to pencil in that time to just breathe and remember why I do the things that I do. Can you relate?

It’s been about a year since this pandemic changed our lives. I find that I am not the same person as I was a year ago..heck, I’m not the same person as I was a month ago! I’m constantly changing and transforming into what I hope is the best version of myself (thus far and for now). I try to press forward even through all this fear I may hold for myself and my community.

I find myself wanting to hold more space for people, really listen to their experience more than ever, and remind them that they’re not alone.

I am not the same artist as I was a year ago either. I have a story to tell…and so do you. More on that soon.

Friends,

Our film, "Infectious" is an official Top 50 selection of the 72-Hour Film Shootout [Isolation Edition]. Please click the link below after reading this post 😉 We not only faced the challenges that all filmmakers have when creating a film in 3 days (writing, pre-production, filming, editing, and even doing a little VO), but we also filmed this in ISOLATION and having just found out the theme and secret item for the competition (Theme: Going Viral; secret item: toilet paper).

Shout out to my team, Team Griot Pancit Congee and the Asian American Film Lab for an awesome opportunity

Shout out to my team, Team Griot Pancit Congee and the Asian American Film Lab for an awesome opportunity

During that SAME weekend, our HEARTS were also so HEAVY facing concurrent pandemics: the virus and the continued fight for racial justice. We were trying to figure out how to safely film in compliance with CDC guidelines and also make sure everyone got home safely at a certain time since NYC had a curfew that weekend.

Our communities (the Black and Asian community) have a history of working in solidarity with each other in this country and being comrades and accomplices. However, our lived-out solidarity is often overshadowed and hidden. Anti-Blackness and Anti-Asian racism is real and it is something we continue to intentionally DISMANTLE in our communities. This was at the forefront of our minds especially that weekend of filming. It is our goal that our film submission can spark dialogue between our communities, reflect our hopes, and inspire deliberate ACTION for change. It is the beginning of a much needed conversation (as I am sure you've had a lot of those in 2020). We are stronger together.

Super thankful to the rest of Team Griot Pancit Congee and @asamfilmlab . The Top 50 films are now on AAFL TV. If you so feel inclined to, please share, like, spread the word etc. Interaction with our film from Sept 1- Sept 15 will count towards a vote for the Audience Choice Award.

May 2020 & June 2020

Hey friends,

It’s been awhile! In my last update we were in the middle of a lot of things and now…

WELL, WE ARE STILL QUITE IN IT.

I’ve been adapting to our “new normal” these past few months (in terms of the pandemic). I’ve finished up teaching residencies through remote learning. I’ve co-created some interactive theatre through online platforms that you’ll hopefully see in August. I’ve gotten even more used to self tapes and virtual auditions. I’ve learned to adapt and be flexible with virtual meetings and classes. I’ve learned to give and accept grace in just figuring it all out.

On a personal note, these months have been filled with people reaching out to me to just talk..just think..just breathe..together. It’s been filled with going off script with lesson plans to hold space for my classes of elementary and middle school students as they process everything. It’s been filled with FaceTime chats, Zoom Happy Hours, and House Party sessions with people I haven’t seen in awhile as well as with people I usually see on a consistent basis. The difference is that I’m learning to reach out and connect more intentionally than I have before.

I’m learning to CREATE with more intention than I have before too.

It would be remiss of me to not acknowledge the protests that have taken place over the past few weeks and the continued fight for racial justice in this country. As a Non Black Woman of Color, a Filipina, I URGE my communities to take the time EVERY SINGLE DAY to reflect on the ways they are living out their solidarity with our Black comrades. Are you calling out and correcting your family members? Are you taking up space where you shouldn’t be taking up space? In what ways have you internalized White Supremacy and and where did your implicit biases come from? How are you using YOUR privilege to dismantle these learned systems and instead use it to AMPLIFY our Black comrades?

If you are an artist, how are you using your art to change the narrative?

Self accountability is part of your solidarity.

I’m learning to CREATE with more intention than I have before.

In June, a few collaborators and I participated in the Asian American Film Lab’s 72 Hour Shoot. We are an all Black and Asian team and the word solidarity was at the forefront of our minds. We wrote, shot, and edited a film in 72 hours! This was also the #IsolationEdition and my first shoot following CDC Guidelines. Filming in the time of COVID. Unfortunately, I am unable to reveal too much right now. But I promise it is COMING. Please follow us on our IG @GriotPancitCongee for the updates. We hope to create work that addresses solidarity between Black and Asian communities. We hope to encourage a sense of healing and start reconciliation between our two communities. We are learning together.

For now, here are some Behind the Scenes footage from our shoot.

Black Lives Matter.

March 2020/April 2020

April 14, 2020

My dearest friends/ future friends/ visitors stopping by on this site,

First, I hope and pray you (yes YOU-the one reading this) and your loved ones are well and healthy. I don’t even need to explain why I start with that. Just turn on any news channel and they’ll explain for me. Life has most definitely changed since my last update and I (as I know you probably too) am adjusting to our “new normal”. I cringe at that phrase, “new normal”, but that is what we are facing and dealing with. I can only hope that we as a collective can be transformed for the better by this experience in order to create a greater “new normal”.

Secondly, it seems really off beat to me to provide any amazing career updates right now. As an artist, my job is to first and foremost empathize and reflect the truth.

The truth is that people are grieving. There has been so much loss in the world- loss of loved ones, of jobs, of milestone events, of celebration…the list goes on. I can’t ignore that truth.

What I hope you can take from this update is this offering: it’s ok to GRIEVE. I would argue that the majority of us are grieving something or someone right now. We are collectively experiencing loss. Grieve as long as you need to, but know that we’ll get through this together. Yes, a lot of times grief comes in waves. One minute you won’t think about your loss and then the next minute it seems like you think about it with an even greater weight than before. It’s ok to mourn the loss of a job, of a previous routine, of an experience/ event that should’ve happened during this time, etc…just like it is ok to mourn someone that you can no longer physically see. Give yourself the permission to grieve as you need. But know that you can come out of this stronger, smarter, sharper, and most importantly, more loving than you’ve ever been.

Another offering…Here are some resources to let you know that you are not alone.

I’ll provide more as I get them.

I’ll end this update by saying how proud I am to be a native New Yorker and how proud I am to come from a family in the medical field. Yep, not only am I NEW YORK STRONG but I also come from a family of superheroes. I ended February 2020 in spiritual reflection with the declaration that my talents and Strength are for a purpose. I didn’t realize how much of that declaration would be tested and brought out.

Declaring healing throughout this world and much needed love.

We’re in this together.

December 2019

Dear friends,

I am writing this update on December 31, 2019 before all the New Years Eve festivities begin. What a month! What a year! What a decade! Look at how much has changed.

Can I walk you down memory lane real quick before all my work updates (I mean…that’s why you’re here right? Work updates or general curiosity from colleagues :) ) ? Ten years ago I was in my late teens doubting who I was, doubting my gifts, doubting my skills; I didn’t know my boundaries nor my purpose. Just an awkward Pinay from NYC trying to figure life out. I wish I can tell you that I have reached Super Saiyan level (10 points for my DBZ fans) of self actualization since then and that I never ever ever doubt myself anymore… but a less boring and more interesting TRUTH I’ve learned in this past decade is that I…WE…are beautifully, messily, human. Everyone is on their own journey of figuring it out. Ten years later that awkward Pinay from NYC in her late teens is now an awkward Pinay in her adulthood doing what she loves in different cities and places just trying to follow GOD’S PLAN. She knows her boundaries and isn’t afraid to set them in honor of the LOVE she has for herself. Doubts and fears do still tempt me but a lot less now and I fight them off by remembering what I already know: I am loved by my Creator. I am loved even when I don’t feel like I am. As long as I am on this earth still breathing, heart still beating..I have a purpose. Even when life hurts and everything is one big mess, I still have purpose.

I write this in hopes that YOU carry those words with you in this new decade. You are loved. You have purpose. You are not alone. Repeat them everyday and say it aloud if you have to. You are loved. You have purpose. You are not alone.

Y’all. 2019 kicked my butt. I got a few punches in and I eventually won in the end but 2019 gave me some bruises. I am welcoming 2020 with open arms. I am entering this new decade a lot stronger, wiser, and even more driven to follow GOD’S PLAN. Let’s get it.

In solidarity,

Presh

UMMMMMM, PRECIOUS?!? How dare you not update your page!! Did you not just attend a branding and marketing class over the summer?!

Hi, hello! As you can probably see, it has been a busy 3/4 months. 2019 has been a year of growth, thick-skin building, and LEVELING UP (cue Ciara song and beat). Here are some highlights I’ve experienced these past few months:

  • Went to LA for vacation but ended up auditioning as well :D

  • Played “Mandy” in the short, TALLY

  • Started 3 school residencies using theatre as a tool for 3rd to 8th grade students

  • Got a callback for a national commercial

  • First refusal for a print ad

  • Booked a workshop for a new play that goes up in December (more details to come!)

  • In the middle of producing and directing a few shorts before 2019 ends

PHEW!

Precious Practice: Your POWER lies in being YOURSELF.

July 2019

A great month of reflecting, learning, and putting in that #werrrk!

-Got put on HOLD for a certain show on Showtime ;) Can’t reveal too many details just yet, just send up your prayers for me!

-Attended the LEVEL UP 2019 conference at Sony Hall to learn more about Branding, Networking, and Business. It was INSPIRING and gave me great direction on proceeding in this business. I am always looking for opportunities to constantly challenge and reinvent myself; this conference gave me the tools to make sure I am creating work that is the best representation and expression of myself as an artist.

-I started writing again! Sometimes all you need is time to be with yourself and a space to pour out all the ideas that you didn’t even know you had. I’m playing around with the thought of submitting some of these scripts to festivals because why not? No time like the present!

Precious Practice** : “CHANGE isn’t predicated on anyone’s feelings; CHANGE is the product of collaborative, intentional work.”

**Life lessons do not always happen at an instant or overnight. Sometime lessons are learned as days go by, through the people you meet, and challenges you overcome. When APPLIED, clarity and precise effective action is made towards your purpose. You may not always feel like applying them and there will be things (self doubt, insecurities, PEOPLE) that will tempt you to dismiss the lessons you’ve learned. That is the time to PRESS and put the lessons you’ve learned into PRACTICE. Happiness is a PRACTICE. Self-accountability is a PRACTICE. Living out your purpose is a PRACTICE. “Precious Practice” is a life lesson I’ve learned and/or am learning that I will share every now and then, in hopes that it will encourage you. It may not speak to you in this season but keep it in your toolbox for when that day comes.

“Why are we here if not for each other”-Claudia Rankine
